Ürəyimdə ayaz var,
Nə qış gedib, nə yaz var.
Oyatma bənövşəni,
Kol dibində ayaz var.
Kədərli baxmayaydın,
Göz yaşım axmayaydı.
Yad baxmağı bir yana,
Yar yada baxmayaydı.
Bu dünya çətin qala,
Yolları çətin qala.
Yaxşı yarı yazda gəz,
Payıza çətin qala.
Qalanın daşı oldum,
Gözümün yaşı oldun.
Dünyada gün görmədim,
Sevəndə naşı oldum.
Yenə də axşam oldu,
Gün keçdi, axşam oldu.
Gecələr mən alışdım,
Əriyən şam oldu.
Yanımda qal bir az da,
Göz yaşı var Arazda.
Yar yuxusun danışıb,
Şəkli qalıb Arazda.
Do not wake
the violet up
Bayati is one of the oldest forms of Azerbaijani folk poetry. A bayati
consists of four lines. Bayati usually represent longing, grief, sadness.
Here you can see my amateur translation of famous Azerbaijani
bayati:
I have frost
in my heart,
Neither winter
left nor spring came.
Do not wake
the violet up,
There is frost
under bush.
If you didn’t
look sad,
My tears wouldn’t
flow.
Aside from alien
My darling wouldn’t
have looked at aliens.
This world is
hardly going to stay,
The roads are
hardly to remain forever.
Search for a
good sweetheart in spring,
He/she will hardly stay till autumn.
You became the tears of my eyes.
I have never been happy in the world,
When I fell in love, I became novice.
It is evening again,
The day passed, the evening came.
At nights I am used to,
It was candle that was melting.
Stay with me for a while,
There are tears in Araz.
Darling spoke his/her dream to Araz,
His/her picture is still in Araz.
